14+7+7: Beijing tightens health measure for intl' arrivals again
International travellers will now undergo a total of 28 days of health obversation in qaurantine, and health monitoring.
In the wake of sporadic cluster infections reported around and near the city, and longer incubation periods for covid-19, Beijing has once again tightened health control for oversea arrivals.
The capital has tacked on another seven days of ‘health monitoring’, after imposing an extra week of home observation following the completion of two-week centralised quarantine by international travellers, said city officials during a press conference on Tuesday, 19.
The new measure stretches the total period of health observation for oversea arrivals into Beijing from 21 days to now 28 days. However, whether travellers are required to quarantine while undergoing the said ’health monitoring’ remains unclear at present.
The new rule comes amid rising concerns about imported cases, as well as longer incubation periods for the virus seen in recent cases in the city, according to a government official statement on WeChat.
Shunyi and Daxing, where two of the city's major international airports are located, have both claimed cases of cluster infections as of recent.
Yesterday, seven new local cases have been reported, six of which are from Daxing and one from Shunyi, prompting neighbourhood shutdowns and mass testing, according to state media.
